The qom objects are currently added to common-obj-y
which is only linked into the system emulators. The
later crypto patches will depend on QOM infrastructure
and will also be used from tools binaries. Thus the QOM
objects are moved into a new qom-obj-y variable which
can be referenced when linking tools, system emulators
and tests.

Future patches will be adding more crypto related APIs which
rely on QOM infrastructure. This creates a problem, because
QOM relies on library constructors to register objects. When
you have a file in a static .a library though which is only
referenced by a constructor the linker is dumb and will drop
that file when linking to the final executable :-( The only
workaround for this is to link the .a library to the executable
using the -Wl,--whole-archive flag, but this creates its own
set of problems because QEMU is relying on lazy linking for
libqemuutil.a. Using --whole-archive majorly increases the
size of final executables as they now contain a bunch of
object code they don't actually use.
The least bad option is to thus not include the crypto objects
in libqemuutil.la, and instead define a crypto-obj-y variable
that is referenced directly by all the executables that need
this code (tools + softmmu, but not qemu-ga). We avoid pulling
entire of crypto-obj-y into the userspace emulators as that
would force them to link to gnutls too, which is not required.

Introduce a new crypto/ directory that will (eventually) contain
all the cryptographic related code. This initially defines a
wrapper for initializing gnutls and for computing hashes with
gnutls. The former ensures that gnutls is guaranteed to be
initialized exactly once in QEMU regardless of CLI args. The
block quorum code currently fails to initialize gnutls so it
only works by luck, if VNC server TLS is not requested. The
hash APIs avoids the need to litter the rest of the code with
preprocessor checks and simplifies callers by allocating the
correct amount of memory for the requested hash.

To support programmatic JSON assembly while keeping the code that generates it
readable, this patch introduces a simple JSON writer. It emits JSON serially
into a buffer in memory.
The nice thing about this writer is its simplicity and low memory overhead.
Unlike the QMP JSON writer, this one does not need to spawn QObjects for every
element it wants to represent.
This is a prerequisite for the migration stream format description generator.

The migration code now occupies a fair chunk of the top level .c
files, it seems time to give it it's own directory.
I've not touched:
arch_init.c - that's mostly RAM migration but has a few random other
bits
savevm.c - because it's built target specific
This is purely a code move; no code has changed.
- it fails checkpatch because of old violations, it feels safer
to keep this as purely a move and fix those at some mythical future
date.
The xbzrle and vmstate tests are now only run for softmmu builds
since they require files in the migrate/ directory which is only built
for softmmu.

Separate the QEMUFile interface from the stdio-specific implementation,
to reduce dependencies from code using QEMUFile.
The code that is being moved is similar to the one that was on savevm.c before
it was moved in commit 093c455a8c, except for
some changes done by Markus, Juan, and myself. So, I am using the copyright and
license header from savevm.c, but CCing Juan and Markus so they can review the
copyright/license header.

Generates file "trace/generated-helpers.c" with TCG helper definitions to trace
events in guest code at execution time.
The helpers ('helper_trace_${event}_exec_proxy') cast the TCG-compatible native
argument types to their original types (as defined in "trace-events") and call
the tracing routine ('trace_${event}_exec').

qapi-event.py will parse the schema and generate qapi-event.c, then
the API in qapi-event.c can be used to handle events in qemu code.
All API have prefix "qapi_event".
The script mainly includes two parts: generate API for each event
define, generate an enum type for all defined events.
Since in some cases the real emit behavior may change, for example,
qemu-img would not send a event, a callback layer is used to
control the behavior. As a result, the stubs at compile time
can be saved, the binding of block layer code and monitor code
will become looser.

Currently all what's needed for single file libcacard/vcard_emul_nss.c
(libnss cflags) and hw/usb/ccid-card-emulated.c (libcacard includes)
together with the libs is added to global QEMU_CFLAGS and libs_softmmu.
Use the cflags only where really used (for two mentioned files), and
libs only where needed.
While at it, rename variables to better reflect reality: libcacard_*
is really nss_*.
This needs a bit more tweaking: $(NSS_LIBS) should not contain $glib_libs
(ditto for _cflags). But in order to fix it, some more preparations
should be made first. So add a FIXME comment.

Current Makefile system allows using foo.o-cflags variables to store
object-specific CFLAGS. Convert some usages of old syntax
(using QEMU_CFLAGS += construct) to the new syntax.
Do not touch multifile modules for now, as build system isn't ready for this.

This is a stand-in for Michael Roth's QContext. I expect this to be
replaced once QContext is completed.
The IOThread object is an AioContext event loop thread. This patch adds
the concept of multiple event loop threads, allowing users to define
them.
When SMP guests run on SMP hosts it makes sense to instantiate multiple
IOThreads. This spreads event loop processing across multiple cores.
Note that additional patches are required to actually bind a device to
an IOThread.
[Andreas Färber <afaerber@suse.de> pointed out that the embedded parent
object instance should be called "parent_obj" and have a newline
afterwards. This patch has been changed to reflect this.

Makefile.target includes rule.mak and unnested common-obj-y, then prefix
them with '../', this will ignore object specific QEMU_CFLAGS in subdir
Makefile.objs:
$(obj)/curl.o: QEMU_CFLAGS += $(CURL_CFLAGS)
Because $(obj) here is './block', instead of '../block'. This doesn't
hurt compiling because we basically build all .o from top Makefile,
before entering Makefile.target, but it will affact arriving per-object
libs support.
The starting point of $(obj) is passed in as argument of unnest-vars, as
well as nested variables, so that different Makefiles can pass in a
right value.

Now that the monitor and readline are decoupled, readline.h no longer
belongs in include/monitor/. Put the header into include/qemu/.

Adds VSS provider and requester as a qga-vss.dll, which is loaded by
Windows VSS service as well as by qemu-ga.
"provider.cpp" implements a basic stub of a software VSS provider.
Currently, this module only relays a frozen event from VSS service to the
agent, and thaw event from the agent to VSS service, to block VSS process
to keep the system frozen while snapshots are taken at the host.
To register the provider to the guest system as COM+ application, the type
library (.tlb) for qga-vss.dll is required. To build it from COM IDL (.idl),
VisualC++, MIDL and stdole2.tlb in Windows SDK are required. This patch also
adds pre-compiled .tlb file in the repository in order to enable
cross-compile qemu-ga.exe for Windows with VSS support.
"requester.cpp" provides the VSS requester to kick the VSS snapshot process.
Qemu-ga.exe works without the DLL, although fsfreeze features are disabled.
These functions are only supported in Windows 2003 or later. In older
systems, fsfreeze features are disabled.
In several versions of Windows which don't support attribute
VSS_VOLSNAP_ATTR_NO_AUTORECOVERY, DoSnapshotSet fails with error
VSS_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND. In this patch, we just ignore this error.
To solve this fundamentally, we need a framework to handle mount writable
snapshot on guests, which is required by VSS auto-recovery feature
(cleanup phase after a snapshot is taken).

QEMU executables for w32, w64 had included meta information built from
version.rc. These rules were changed several times some months ago.
The latest version added version.o to the tools, but not to the system
emulations.
This patch adds the meta information to all system emulations again.

Code that does need to be visible is kept
well contained inside this file and this is the only
new additional file to the entire patch.
This file includes the entire protocol and interfaces
required to perform RDMA migration.
Also, the configure and Makefile modifications to link
this file are included.

This property will be useful for libvirt, as libvirt already has logic
based on low-level feature bits (not feature names), so it will be
really easy to convert the current libvirt logic to something using the
"feature-words" property.
The property will have two main use cases:
- Checking host capabilities, by checking the features of the "host"
CPU model
- Checking which features are enabled on each CPU model

The TPM subsystem does not have a full front-end/back-end separation.
The sole available backend, tpm_passthrough, depends on the data
structures of the sole available frontend, tpm_tis.
However, we can at least try to split the user interface (tpm.c) from the
implementation (hw/tpm). The patches makes tpm.c not include tpm_int.h,
which is shared between tpm_tis.c and tpm_passthrough.c; instead it
moves more stuff to tpm_backend.h.

The gthread coroutine backend is broken and does not produce a working
QEMU; it is only useful for some very limited debugging situations.
Clean up the backend selection logic in configure so that it now runs
"if on windows use windows; else prefer ucontext; else sigaltstack".
To do this we refactor the configure code to separate out "test
whether we have a working ucontext", "pick a default if user didn't
specify" and "validate that user didn't specify something invalid",
rather than having all three of these run together. We also simplify
the Makefile logic so it just links in the backend the configure
script selects.

This patch adds support for TPM command line options.
The command line options supported here are
./qemu-... -tpmdev passthrough,path=<path to TPM device>,id=<id>
-device tpm-tis,tpmdev=<id>,id=<other id>
and
./qemu-... -tpmdev help
where the latter works similar to -soundhw help and shows a list of
available TPM backends (for example 'passthrough').
Using the type parameter, the backend is chosen, i.e., 'passthrough' for the
passthrough driver. The interpretation of the other parameters along
with determining whether enough parameters were provided is pushed into
the backend driver, which needs to implement the interface function
'create' and return a TPMDriverOpts structure if the VM can be started or
'NULL' if not enough or bad parameters were provided.
Monitor support for 'info tpm' has been added. It for example prints the
following:

qdev-monitor.c is the only "core qdev" file that is not used in
user-mode emulation, and it does not define anything that is used
by hardware models. Remove it from the hw/ directory and
remove hw/qdev-monitor.h from hw/qdev.h too; this requires
some files to have some new explicitly includes.

extra-obj-y is somewhat complicated to understand. Replace it with a
special CONFIG_ALL symbol that is defined only at toplevel.
This limits the case of directories defining more than one
*-obj-y target.

All of universal-obj-y, user-obj-y (right now unused) and common-obj-y can
be unified into common-obj-y if we take care of defining CONFIG_SOFTMMU
and CONFIG_USER_ONLY in the toplevel makefile. This is similar to how
we define symbols for hardware components.

There is no reason why for example qemu-ga should include all the
definitions for the QEMU monitor. However, there are a few
that are needed (qapi_free_SocketAddress, qapi_free_InetSocketAddress,
ErrorClass_lookup). These should be moved to a separate "core"
.json schema that goes into libqemuutil.a.
For now, make this clearer by moving the qapi-*.o definitions out
of libqemuutil.a. Once the above refactoring is done, qga-obj-y
should not include anymore qapi-types.o and qapi-visit.o.

The directory descent mechanism, and a less-flat tree both helped
in making some *-obj-y definitions very short. Many of these
often end up in universal-obj-y, and used to be separate only
because of libuser (which is now part of history...).
Consolidate these variables in a single one.

Weak symbols were a nice idea, but they turned out not to be a good one.
Toolchain support is just too sparse, in particular llvm-gcc is totally
broken.
This patch uses a surprisingly low-tech approach: a static library.
Symbols in a static library are always overridden by symbols in an
object file. Furthermore, if you place each function in a separate
source file, object files for unused functions will not be taken in.
This means that each function can use all the dependencies that it needs
(especially QAPI stuff such as error_setg).
Thus, all stubs are placed in separate object files and put together in
a static library. The library then is linked to all programs.

Add a generic thread-pool. The code is roughly based on posix-aio-compat.c,
with some changes, especially the following:
- use QemuSemaphore instead of QemuCond;
- separate the state of the thread from the return code of the worker
function. The return code is totally opaque for the thread pool;
- do not busy wait when doing cancellation.
A more generic threadpool (but still specific to I/O so that in the future
it can use special scheduling classes or PI mutexes) can have many uses:
it allows more flexibility in raw-posix.c and can more easily be extended
to Win32, and it will also be used to do an msync of the persistent bitmap.

The Win32 implementation will only accept EventNotifiers, thus a few
drivers are disabled under Windows. EventNotifiers are a good match
for the GSource implementation, too, because the Win32 port of glib
allows to place their HANDLEs in a GPollFD.

Adding an NBD server inside QEMU is trivial, since all the logic is
in nbd.c and can be shared easily between qemu-nbd and QEMU itself.
The main difference is that qemu-nbd serves a single unnamed export,
while QEMU serves named exports.

The first user of close notifiers will be the embedded NBD server.
It would be possible to use them to do some of the ad hoc processing
(e.g. for block jobs and I/O limits) that is currently done by

Adding basic options to the configure script to use libseccomp or not.
The default is set to 'no'. If the flag --enable-libseccomp is used, the
script will check for its existence using pkg-config.

This patch combines two functions into one, and replaces
the implementation with already existing iov_memset() from
iov.c.
The new prototype of qemu_iovec_memset():
size_t qemu_iovec_memset(qiov, size_t offset, int fillc, size_t bytes)
It is different from former qemu_iovec_memset_skip(), and
I want to make other functions to be consistent with it
too: first how much to skip, second what, and 3rd how many
of it. It also returns actual number of bytes filled in,
which may be less than the requested `bytes' if qiov is
smaller than offset+bytes, in the same way iov_memset()
does.
While at it, use utility function iov_memset() from
iov.h in posix-aio-compat.c, where qiov was used.

that mimics the source tree. This is useful because we do have
a couple of files there that are in the top source directory.

This patch starts converting the hw/ directory. Some files in hw/
are compiled once, some twice (32-/64-bit), some once per target.
Each category is moved in a separate patch.
After this patch, the files that are compiled once will show the
same hierarchy in the build tree as they do in the source tree,
for example hw/qdev.o instead of just qdev.o.

qom/ already used a separate makefile. Convert it to use relative
paths, and make it declare both common-obj-y and user-obj-y. This
way, the upper makefiles do not need to know that some QOM files
are compiled twice.

At this point we will start adding nesting behavior to other files
than Makefile.target. Because Makefile.objs is included by
Makefile.target, it is simpler to move the processing of
subdirectories there.
To enable this, only add per-target files to obj-y. Use a separate
variable for the linker dependencies, all-obj-y. This variable includes
obj-y and also all objects that are taken from other directories.

The tracetool script is written in shell and has hit several portability
problems due to shell quirks or external tools across host platforms.
Additionally the amount of string processing and lack of real data
structures makes it tough to implement code generator backends for
tracers that are more complex.
This patch replaces the shell version of tracetool with a Python
version. The new tracetool design is:
scripts/tracetool.py - top-level script
scripts/tracetool/backend/ - tracer backends live here (simple, ust)
scripts/tracetool/format/ - output formats live here (.c, .h)
There is common code for trace-events definition parsing so that
backends can focus on generating code rather than parsing input.
Support for all existing backends (nop, stderr, simple, ust,
and dtrace) is added back in follow-up patches.

The idea behind qtest is pretty simple. Instead of executing a CPU via TCG or
KVM, rely on an external process to send events to the device model that the CPU
would normally generate.
qtest presents itself as an accelerator. In addition, a new option is added to
establish a qtest server (-qtest) that takes a character device. This is what
allows the external process to send CPU events to the device model.
qtest uses a simple line based protocol to send the events. Documentation of
that protocol is in qtest.c.
I considered reusing the monitor for this job. Adding interrupts would be a bit
difficult. In addition, logging would also be difficult.
qtest has extensive logging support. All protocol commands are logged with
time stamps using a new command line option (-qtest-log). Logging is important
since ultimately, this is a feature for debugging.

This adds support for a standard pci to pci bridge,
enabling support for more than 32 PCI devices in the system.
Device hotplug is supported by means of SHPC controller.
For guests with an SHPC driver, this allows robust hotplug
and even hotplug of nested bridges, up to 31 devices
per bridge.

This capability makes it possible for the guest to
report a unique chassis identifier to the user.
The spec also recommends making chassis indentifier
persist in eeprom.
This isn't implemented.

This adds support for SHPC interface, as defined by PCI Standard
Hot-Plug Controller and Subsystem Specification, Rev 1.0

Only SHPC intergrated with a PCI-to-PCI bridge is supported,
SHPC integrated with a host bridge would need more work.
All main SHPC features are supported:
- MRL sensor
- Attention button
- Attention indicator
- Power indicator
Wake on hotplug and serr generation are stubbed out but unused
as we don't have interfaces to generate these events ATM.
One issue that isn't completely resolved is that qemu currently
expects an "eject" interface, which SHPC does not provide: it merely
removes the power to device and it's up to the user to remove the device
from slot. This patch works around that by ejecting the device
when power is removed and power LED goes off.

Reintroduce CPUState as QOM object: It's abstract and derived directly
from TYPE_OBJECT for compatibility with the user emulators.
The identifier CPUState avoids conflicts between CPU() and the struct.
Introduce $(qom-twice-y) to build it separately for system and for user
emulators.
Prepare a virtual reset method, (re)introduce cpu_reset() as wrapper.

Link the Object base class and the module infrastructure for class
registration. Introduce $(universal-obj-y) for objects that are more
common than $(common-obj-y), so that those only get built once.

Reorganize usb source files. Create a new hw/usb/ directory and move
all usb source code to that place. Also make filenames a bit more
descriptive. Host adapters are prefixed with "hch-" now, usb device
emulations are prefixed with "dev-". Fixup paths Makefile and include
paths to make it compile. No code changes.

Applying the concept used for the *PICs once again: establish a base
class for the i8254 that can be used both by the current user space
emulation and the upcoming KVM in-kernel version. We share most of the
public interface of the i8254, specifically to the pcspk, vmstate, reset
and certain init parts.

This adds a win32 channel implementation that makes qemu-ga functional
on Windows using virtio-serial (unix-listen/isa-serial not currently
implemented). Unlike with the posix implementation, we do not use
GIOChannel for the following reasons:
- glib calls stat() on an fd to check whether S_IFCHR is set, which is
the case for virtio-serial on win32. Because of that, a one-time
check to determine whether the channel is readable is done by making
a call to PeekConsoleInput(), which reports the underlying handle is
not a valid console handle, and thus we can never read from the
channel.
- if one goes as far as to "trick" glib into thinking it is a normal
file descripter, the buffering is done in such a way that data
written to the output stream will subsequently result in that same
data being read back as if it were input, causing an error loop.
furthermore, a forced flush of the channel only moves the data into a
secondary buffer managed by glib, so there's no way to prevent output
from getting read back as input.
The implementation here ties into the glib main loop by implementing a
custom GSource that continually submits asynchronous/overlapped I/O to
fill an GAChannel-managed read buffer, and tells glib to poll the
corresponding event handle for a completion whenever there is no
data/RPC in the read buffer to notify the main application about.
Various stubs and #ifdefs to compile for Windows using mingw
cross-build. Still has 1 linker error due to a dependency on the
forthcoming win32 versions of the GAChannel/transport class.
Many of the current RPC implementations are very much POSIX-specific
and require complete re-writes for Windows. There are however a small
set of core guest agent commands that are common to both, and other
commands such as guest-file-* which *may* be portable. So we introduce
commands.c for the latter, and will rename guest-agent-commands.c to
commands-posix.c in a future commit. Windows implementations will go in
commands-win32.c, eventually.
This is mostly in preparation for the win32 port, which won't use
GIO channels for reasons that will be made clearer later. Here the
GAChannel class is just a loose wrapper around GIOChannel
calls/callbacks, but we also roll in the logic/configuration for
various channel types and managing unix socket connections, which makes
the abstraction much more complete and further aids in the win32 port
since isa-serial/unix-listen will not be supported initially.
There's also a bit of refactoring in the main logic to consolidate the
exit paths so we can do common cleanup for things like pid files, which
weren't always cleaned up previously.
String based visitors provide a consistent interface for parsing
strings to C values, as well as consuming C values as strings.
They will be used to parse command-line options.

Analogously to the APIC, we will reuse some parts of the user space
i8259 model for KVM. The base class provides a common device state, the
vmstate, the property list, a reset core and some shared init bits.
This also introduces a common helper to instantiate a single i8259 chip
from the cascade-creating i8259_init function.

Based on the implementation from Hector Martin <hector@marcansoft.com>
Hectors's implementation completely sidestepped the qemu usb system and
used libusb directly for usb device pass through. So I've ripped out
the libusb bits (or left them in disabled, as reference for further
coding) and hooked up the qemu subsystem instead. That work is not
complete yet though, partly due to limitations of the qemu usb
subsystem. Nevertheless I think it is better to continue development
in-tree, especially as the qemu usb bits need a bunch of improvements
too for decent usb 3.0 support.
Current state:
- usb-storage emulation should work ok.
- Devices which need constant polling (HID emulation like usb-tablet)
are known to not work.
- ISO xfers are not implemented yet.
- superspeed ports are not implemented yet.
- usb pass-through is completely untested so far.

This brings a usb audio device to qemu. Output only, fixed at
16bit stereo @ 480000 Hz. Based on a patch from
H. Peter Anvin <hpa@linux.intel.com>
Usage: add '-device usb-audio' to your qemu command line.
Works sorta ok on a idle machine. Known issues:
* Is *very* sensitive to latencies.
* Burns quite some CPU due to usb polling.
In short: It brings the qemu usb emulation to its limits. Enjoy!

Currently creating a memory region automatically registers it for
live migration. This differs from other state (which is enumerated
in a VMStateDescription structure) and ties the live migration code
into the memory core.
Decouple the two by introducing a separate API, vmstate_register_ram(),
for registering a RAM block for migration. Currently the same
implementation is reused, but later it can be moved into a separate list,
and registrations can be moved to VMStateDescription blocks.

Outside coroutines, avoid busy waiting on EAGAIN by temporarily
making the socket blocking.
The API of qemu_recvv/qemu_sendv is slightly different from
do_readv/do_writev because they do not handle coroutines. It
returns the number of bytes written before encountering an
EAGAIN. The specificity of yielding on EAGAIN is entirely in
qemu-coroutine.c.

handle fs driver require a set of newly added syscalls. Don't
Compile handle FS driver if those syscalls are not available.
Instead of adding #ifdef for all those syscalls we check for
open by handle syscall. If that is available then rest of the
syscalls used by the driver should be available.

This patch create a synthetic file system with mount tag
v_synth when -virtfs_synth command line option is specified
in qemu. The synthetic file system can be mounted in guest
using 9p using the below command line
mount -t 9p -oversion=9p2000.L,trans=virtio v_synth <mountpint>
Synthetic file system enabled different qemu subsystem to register
callbacks for read and write events from guest. The subsystem
can create directories and files in the synthetic file system as show
in ex below
